CLosure of Griffith Ave and Finglas Sorting office is unacceptable

An Post must stop the closure of the Griffith Avenue and Finglas sorting offices, following confirmation of plans to move the service to North City Business Park, by the postal service. Commenting on the plans, Deputy McAuliffe said: “I received confirmation that the An Post Griffith Avenue sorting office is to be moved to North City Business Park as part of a citywide plan over the next couple of years for delivery offices to move to delivery hubs. Many people who might have missed a delivery will now have to travel to North City Business Park in order to collect their parcels. For those with mobility issues, or who do not have access to their own transport, this will be especially difficult as the North City Business Park sorting office in Dublin 11 is not as well connected or easily accessible. There’s no direct public transport link to the new hub from large parts of Dublin North West. An Post confirmed that the delivery offices in Dublin 5, 9 and 11 will be sharing a new facility which is being completed and purpose fitted at the North City Business Park in Dublin 11. I understand that this move is scheduled for the second quarter of next year, however, this latest development will come as a shock to many. The postal service has said that it needs larger premises and/or repurposed facilities to manage increased parcel volumes and to meet the future needs of the city – although there still remains many concerns from local residents that need to be addressed. I will be raising concerns directly with An Post and also with the Minister directly.”
